The Napoleon
Drummer
More Der Roth Hijinks
Der Roth (the namesake for our Hefeweizen) was well known in New Berlin for drumming on anything he could – and for not working. He frequently told people that he had served as a drummer in Napoleon’s army. One day shortly after the drum corps got a new snare drum, the boys thought it would be funny to let Der Roth play it. He did – and he played it well. In fact, he played it as he marched all the way out of town. Just when they boys started to wonder if he'd ever return, they heard him drumming his way back. He returned the drum and thanked the boys for their kindness (Banner 210).
