Peter Pierson was born in France and drafted into Napoleon's army and sent to Austria. He served there and in Spain as a member of the Cavalry. He and his wife Catherine settled in the area in 1828. He later started a brewery that produced “fine quality beer.” His reputation as a valiant soldier was admired by New Berliners. He was buried in the Catholic cemetery in New Berlin (Basner 237).
